Literature Text

There is a lake in the west,
Across the woods and the hills
And the Mountains of Unrest,
I have seen it there.

It grows with every night,
It’s shape is like a stain,
Underneath the starlight
On the surface of the plain,
I have seen it there.

It is not a lake of water,
But of bodies of the dead
And gore from the slaughters
Of the wars that we led,
I have seen it there.

The smell is of rot and rust
From decaying flesh on the shore
Forever left in the dust
Sleeping without a snore,
I have seen it there.

Within the core of the lake,
There is movement and life,
From who sleep but never wake
Crawling and grabbing with strife,
I have seen it there.

The ones who live scream there
Yelling for their mothers
As they struggle blind through
The blood and gore of the lake,
I have seen it there.

I love how you rhymed the first and third, second and fourth lines of the stanza. I can only ever seem to rhyme the second and fourth lines of my poems :P This is a great poem, I loved the imagery :D
